Taylor Swift Wished 'Merry Swiftmas' By Evan Taubenfeld
Taylor Swift grew up on a Christmas tree farm, so she clearly has a very personal connection to the holiday. That's probably why she got so excited when she heard "Merry Swiftmas (Even Though I Celebrate Chanukah)." A singer/songwriter named Evan Taubenfeld (who used to play guitar for and collaborate with Avril Lavigne) debuted the song on YouTube and tweeted it to Swift. The pop-country superstar responded relatively soon after the initial tweet. "This made me smile," she tweeted, adding the link to the song.
The tune itself is a catchy folk-ish tune that features a series of lyrics about Taubenfeld wanting Santa to only bring him Swift for Christmas — and how disappointed he would be if any other famous ladies were delivered. The first chorus goes like this: "So don't put a bow on a box/ There's no need to send Megan Fox/ I don't need big mansion/ So let's nix Scarlett Johansson/ They'll be teardrops on my guitar/ If I end up with Amy Smart/ So Santa for my gift/ Please send me Taylor Swift."
Since he departed Lavigne's band in 2004, Taubenfeld has been at work on his own music. His debut album Welcome to the Blacklist Club was supposed to come out this past September but was bumped and now has no release date. Still, he has managed to make a splash with the single "Boy Meets Girl" (which had over a million plays on MySpace) and spent time on the road this year with Metro Station. For maximum enjoyment this holiday season, you should do your best to make "Merry Swiftmas (Even Though I Celebrate Chanukah)" a new traditional carol.
