You did a week ago said that most ballads with the piano will not be on the album. You can tell us why?
Cone: I do not think there was a particular reason, I think they just were not as well as other songs. We added more and more songs for the album, then it went like that, it was really just a coincidence! It was not like we said, "Oh, there's the piano that we will not put it on the album!", These songs were just not as good as others. And I also think it was just a coincidence that there are a lot of piano in it ... But there are still songs on the album with a lot of piano!
Is it still takes songs like Pieces, etc. ...?
Cone: Uh ... there is not really like that song plays, but there are slow songs. There's a song or there's just the piano, and Deryck sings over it. It's a very nice song.
The song is from 12 minutes of songs planned for the original EP, which came to choosing the butt? It was to make a single song on the EP in the manner of The Decline? Was it hard to assemble?
Cone: Like NOFX song? Hmm ... no ... We all love this album by NOFX, but they are not really thought about writing "Epic". This song is about 22 minutes right? (Ed.: 18mn) "The Decline". But I think it's just that these songs, three songs that were assembled to make a 12 minute song, they assembled really well with each other! Et .. I do not know, I think that Deryck had this idea in mind when he wrote these songs and he had to say: "Oh, these songs go really well together" and he has assembled. We had the option of having them appear as a title each in its own right in the album or to bring them together, and eventually it became a single song.
Tom: I think as Deryck told me when he did the EP with the songs, in itself, it should have been together since the introduction goes well with this verse with the refrain, and so on! This part takes a particular part that leads to such party etc. ... it was along the same lines, the same music ... We therefore repeated the songs together, end to end.
Is there going to be more solo album? Compared to Chuck, Underclass Hero?
Cone: guitar solos? Hmm ... yeah! I think ... infact in Underclass Hero, there was not really a lot of guitar solos, I think about it there are many more!
Tom: Yeah there are some guitar solos, more than Underclass Hero in any case, an album on which there was more work at the voice. There is a passage from "shreding" on guitar. (Note: the shredding is to play lots of notes very quickly, such as on the first solo Bitter End)
You made a song in French for Underclass Hero, do you intend to make new songs or just a few phrases in another language than yours?
Cone: No! (Laughs) No, I do not know!
And why a song in French?
Cone: Well, I do not know! One day arrived with Deryck, I still do not know why else!
It was pretty stupid, really unusual is not it?
Cone: Yeah ... I do not know why he wrote this song, to be honest, I have no idea!
Tom: I think it's a song with which he has overcome one night because we had written a few words in French ..
Cone: It was hard enough as a question!
Before you were doing a lot of collaborations with other musicians, either live or in studio, but since it has not happened Ludacris? It does not interest you?
Cone: "Get Back"? with Ludacris?
There are no other collaborations planned?
Cone: Oh! There has been no other since Ludacris, but no, there is no set! In general, we were contacted to collaborations. Iggy Pop had contacted us for Little Know It All, Ludacris has asked us to do a Feat. So things like that or we are asked to play with other artists, it has not done so! But if one day you contact us and ask us to do something in the genre, we will surely say "ok"! But for now, nobody has contacted us!
Tom: There have been something with "The Vandals", a sort of little help, but it was not recorded.
Cone: No, actually.
What we hear when we listen scumfuck is a demo version or the album?
Cone: The one on the site? This is the final version! (Note: not mastered)
Can you tell us about Jessica Kill one of the first titles announced for the album?
Cone: Jessica Kill ... It's a song on the new album. It's a fast song, it is pretty intense. The name of the song came from a friend Deryck, but is now our friend to all. In fact I think ... I think they drove their car in Los Angeles and "Jessica Kill" drew Deryck friend and he saw the name on the phone and asked, "Who is Jessica Kill"? So her friend said: "This is my friend". Deryck and therefore has decided to call the song as well, because he thought it was a pretty cool title! But the song actually ... it's a new song on the album!
Have you finished the design of the album? Will it darker or colored such as Underclass Hero?
Cone: Um ... we started working on a cover for the album. We started a few months ago because we thought the album was expected this year. It has not seen much since the last 2-3 months ... But it will look like, basically, the theme Screaming Bloody Murder you've seen already, we just not yet finished result, so we will probably work on it pretty quickly.
Stevo: Hi! Glad to see you again!
Cone: That Stevo!
Can you explain your project "become a resident scumfuck?
Matt: its suspended for now!
Cone: That put aside but it was a T-Shirt "Resident scumfuck" we did! You saw him?
Matt: I wear one now.
Cone: Ah! Let me see? You can do a little walking as models? (Laughs)
Matt: There is the little logo "Sum 41" behind.
Cone: Yeah, so the project "Resident scumfuck" is apparently on a break ... But not T-Shirt! It is on sale it!
You came a lot of time in Europe in 2010, you will return when the album will be released?
Stevo: Oh yeah it is! Once the album is coming out in Europe! In fact, you do not play many new songs for the moment, but when we come back we will play all new songs plus old songs!
Can you confirm that the album is officially finished?
Stevo: Yes, the album is finished! Everything is done! This now is just waiting for ...
Cone: There are still a step, it has not yet been mastered, but it's very important because all recordings were made.
Stevo: Yeah everything has been registered and is mixed. Everything is being assembled.
Is what Tom has recorded guitar parts on the new album?
Tom: I recorded Ouaiq parties. In fact, Deryck did a good job with the guitars, but I also did some stuff. It's like a collaboration that has benefited the group.
For the moment, you do not play a new song from scumfuck! But I remember hearing Deryck say we might have a chance to hear one another during this tour. Are you going to play one tonight?
Cone: Skumfuk!
Are you still in touch with Dave Baksh?
Cone: Uh ... sometimes yeah. Especially a few messages. But I have not personally seen for a long time! But he sent me some message already. We're still friends! And you?
Stevo: It's the same in fact, for my birthday, or I do not know why we keep in touch! We have a good relationship with him.
What should I respond to people who ask me "What's Sum 41?" ?
Stevo: Uh ... I would say ... This is an excellent rock band with superb lighting effects on stage! (Laughs) And great video! And they are Canadian!
How did you manage to play in the movie "Dirty Love"?
Stevo: How is what we ended up in? Our friend asked us at the time he was married to Jenny McCarthy.
Cone: A strange story indeed, the same friend who had a friend Jessica Kill!
Stevo: Yeah it's true!
Cone: The director asked us to turn in the film had to girlfriend Jessica Kill.
Stevo: The song called Jenny McCarthy failed! (Laughs)
*The "friend' is John Asher
