MEET THE BLACK LIST CLUB!
Lucky lucky me! I got to chat with the very sexy, very blonde Evan Taubenfeld, the genius behind your new VIP band, The Black List Club. Evan was in Avril Lavigne's band for a long time but now is bringing you his own music courtesy of the BLC.
Give us a quick history of the Black List Club:
I quit Avril's band and sign to Warner Brothers where I make a terrible record that never comes out. Devin Bronson (my successor with Avril), Isaac Carpenter (Gosling, Loudermilk), Mike Castonguay (Lukewarm Freeda & Producer) and I team up to create a superband. I write every day for a year until we have the best songspossible while we simultaneously develop as a band, create our sound and build our momentum. We sell millions of records, tour the world, and have about as much fun as humanly possible (I have the profound ability to see the future).
How was it making the transition from Avril Lavigne's band to your own?
It was a combination of incredible and horrible all at once. Getting back to fronting a band and making my own music was HUGE. I literally hadn't felt that happy in years. At the same time it was a huge ego check for me. Going from playing for a $30 million selling artist to being a baby band on a different label was like culture shock. All the suits always kissed my ass because I was in Avril's band but when I signed to WB and quit, people couldn't give a shit about me. I felt like the it was a bad breakup in high school where no one took my side or something.
Avril seems kind of like a pretentious bitch. True?
She has been one of my closest friends for over 5 years now and has been unbelievably supportive of me and the BLC. I can honestly say that she's one of the best singers I've ever seen and is a lot more talented than people give her credit for.
Who is on your black list?
No one. To me, The Black List Club is all about being all inclusive to all of those non-included. With everyone getting so elitist and exclusive nowadays, I wanted us to stand for something that felt more like a unified army than a ostracizing gang. The Black List Club is more than just the band, its all of us, the fans, and anyone who supports in any way, they're all part of it and I consider them our family.
Facebook or MySpace?
God, if I had to choose, Facebook only cause there are less bands trying to play me their horrible music.
What's the best part about being an FriendsOrEnemies VIP?
I love that it's like run by the bands. It feels like the prisoners have taken over the jail or something. On MySpace and Facebook, there's just so much garbage that has nothing to do with music and music culture.
You're pretty foxy. What kind of girls do you like?
Gee, why thanks. I'm blushing. I've been single for a long, long time now so it's hard to know for sure. I know deal-breakers for me are girls who aren't sharp and don't have a good sense of humor. I usually like someone driven and supportive. Sexy doesn't hurt either.
