Kim Hanley is "the shit" as Evan puts it and is a big reason the BLC is a family. So put your hands together and give a big evil round of applause to Evil K
How did you meet Evan and decide to start the forum?
I had been in contact with Evan since around 2002/2003, ran one or two fan sites for him along the way and as time went on we worked together more and more on things (like building his official website) and became friends along the way. At first we were hesitant to put a forum on his site, not knowing if anyone would be interested in joining and keeping it active, but it was definitely the right choice to do it! I know he definitely enjoys being able to interact with you guys on a regular basis, and I think it's a ton of fun to be involved with myself. It'd be hard to imagine things today without the support of the members of the forum!
What is your role at Big Evil?
Let's check the Big Evil site... "Executive Vice President, Marketing & Promotion; Senior Vice President, Creative Services". Woah! As of right now, everything you see me do online is my current role at Big Evil. I help out and do whatever I can for the Big Evil crew, whether it be maintaining a website, running a contest, media, or giving my opinion on something. As 2009 wears on, my duties will (probably) become a little more broad and I'll be carrying some more responsibility on my shoulders. I can't wait, 2009 is going to be pretty awesome for everyone!
What do you enjoy most about working with Big Evil and Evan?
Everyone I've met who's a part of Big Evil has not only been outrageously nice and a pleasure to work with, but also very talented, and I'm so honored to be a part of that. Evan is insanely easy to work with and he makes the whole "work" experience very laid back and casual, but also very professional. Big Evil = family.
Which song are you most excited to hear from Welcome to the Black List Club?[/b]
I've actually been fortunate enough to hear the record, and put it on at least once a day because it's THAT good. Pretty much every track could be a single, but my favorites have to be "Boy Meets Girl", "Love/Hate" and "Matter Of Time", although I'd probably list different ones if you asked me tomorrow. I'm proud of Evan and co. because it really is an awesome record and I can't wait for you guys to hear it. It's worth buying, no illegal downloading! Haha. [/color]
Do you plan on turning music marketing and promotion into your full time career?
Most definitely. I originally planned to be more hands on with music recording as I attended Audio Engineering school after high school, but realized my passion was actually helping artists build their name, through promo/etc., which is why I'm very thankful I've been kept on the Big Evil roster.
Are there some artists you would like to work with in the future?
In the future, for sure. I'm very happy where I am right now, but if something came up further on and I was available, I'd love to help out anyone. I'm sure it'll happen, who knows!
Any advice you would give someone interested in perusing a career path like yours?
Keep promoting artists/bands and building fan sites to support them, offer any help they might need (through places like MySpace), whether it's putting up concert posters around your city or promo online. Artists/bands and the people who work with them appreciate and notice fans who are really into it and not just trying to get a backstage pass. The more you get to know these people, they'll remember how good of a job you did and most likely go back to you again and again, which will give you more experience and also build a network of like-minded people that will help you along the way.
