Review: Sum41 at the Uptown Amphitheater in the NC Music Factory
Starting Story
First how this all started. I had been talking to Cone on myspace about him donating some bass pics to FC. After I told him I was going to the NC show, he offered to give them to me then. Cone got me in contact with their tour manager Kenny and we worked everything out.
Pre-Show
We got there about 4 hours before sound check and met up with Kenny. We hung out in a smaller venue at the Music Factory. The guys were getting breakfast so we walked by Deryck, then saw Cone and Tom.
Sound Check
Kenny let us go on stage during sound check, you can actually hear everything a lot better..lol Cone came up to us before they started and said hello and everything. Deryck talked to us after.
The Show
Kenny let us watch the show from side stage. All I gotta say is INSANE! The crowed kinda sucked though, not many Sum fans. I was the only one using the Sum Salute. During the end of the show Cone was playing inches from me (hints the great shots)
Photos on FC Flicker
Set List
Chuck Intro
Hell Song
We're All To Blame
In Too Deep
(might have been Motivation)
King of Contradiction
Makes No Difference
Underclass Hero
Still Waiting
Fat Lip
There was a song after In Too Deep and I can't believe I don't remember. I forgot to take a pic of the set list in the excitement. They ran out of time to play P4P
After the Show
Cone and Stevo came up and did the FC shoutout
Then we went to see the Offspring's donkeys..lol Stevo was like a kid in a candy store. Cone asked if I wanted to go watch the Offspring, so I watched the set behind stage beside Cone, that too was INSANE. Todd from OpMD was playing guitar for them, came over to talk to Cone about 3 times. We went back inside before the set was over and Deryck came out, took some pics with us, signed my "Best of Sum41" cover and talked a bit. He said they are "half way done" with the album. I told him to take his time and write the best he can write no matter the wait.
Since Kenny also works with Avril here are a few points
- Tour starts at the end of this year
- The record is sounding amazing (per derycks words as well)
Oh and they didn't know Evan was starting to tour, so I got to tell them that awesome news. He's actually playing at the same venue in September.
HUGE HUGE THANKS TO:
Kenny, Cone, Deryck, Stevo, and Dan
