Full Article: Punkers who rock, past and present Punk vets The Offspring, pop-punk Sum 41 bring new tour to town on Tuesday.Deryck's bit: Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, who was 14 when The Offspring released its 1994 commercial breakthrough “Smash,” says teaming up with The Offspring was an easy commitment. After all, The Offspring gave Sum 41 one of its first high-profile opening slots years ago. The tour also follows the March release of Sum 41's “All the Good S***,” a greatest hits collection that Whibley sequenced but felt was too premature. (“If it was up to me, it wouldn't have come out.”) In fact, Whibley typically doesn't let expectations from labels, agents or fans influence him. He's currently writing “aggressive, fast, darker, intense” material for the next Sum record, and producing songs for wife Avril Lavigne. “Life is pretty good, so to get me to leave my life and go on tour for a year and half, (the next album's) got to be something great,” says Whibley, who celebrates his third wedding anniversary Wednesday. “I don't want to put out a record that just has some good songs on it. I want to do something that goes beyond anything we've ever done.”
