I've been collecting various LAM questions I've asked to put on the site. Some are relating to Deryck to keep with FC's theme of ASE. I'll keep adding to this thread from time to time
enjoy...
- Are there any charities you would love to support in the future?
I'd LOVE to do stuff for Autism
- What was the inspiration behind "My Apology"?
was looking at a breakup from the perspective of the one doing the hurting, it was tough but had to happen.
- What do you consider your most artistic song (lyrically or melodically) to date? Evan Way
- So in the new myspace videos like "recording" and "singing" COTY. You're in a different studio, its not Wishbone. Did you finish the record somewhere else?
we had done some additional tracking and overdubs here and there. I did a ton at Big Evil. we also had it mixed elsewhere.
- Are you doing something for this movie? Lock and Roll Forever, you're listed as music producer for it
yea I wrote and produced "Believing In Each Other Now" & "California Valentine" for the movie and worked with those wonderful Oreskaband ladies!
- Have you had to throw your deadly deck of cards Devo gave you at anyone yet? Yes, but for legal reasons I can't talk about it.
- Any chance you would play the piano and drums on tour for a few songs like Avril and Deryck?
I'm not big into playing drums anymore, I spend to much of my life stuck behind a set that I'd rather not do the cliche' "artist plays drums now" part of my concerts. I'd rock a song piano though!
- Does adding those unique touches in a album version of a song worth what the song loses live?
well, I think they're two completely different artistic statements. I never think about how to pull things off live when we're in the studio. What happens on a record is that version and realization of the song, then live its a whole different animal. I personally love the two being distinctly different things.
- Do you like Sum41, whats your fave song?
Love em,
Deryck is a great guy, awesome husband to Avril and that is what's most important. His music is great, I love "So Long Goodbye"
- How do you like the new stuff deryck is coming up with?
yea! he's great, I think he's gonna make a fucking AMAZING record. He's super super talented as a writer and producer and I can't wait to see where he takes it.
- I know Deryck searched high and low for guitars to fit Underclass Hero, most of them being older models. So how would you compare the attitude and tone of late model guitars to modern-day models?
there's a magic to some of those amazing vintage models(I have a 74' Keith Richards custom shop Tele) but lucky for me PRS makes amazing new guitars so I just use them on everything
- How does your home studio differ from Deryck's?
Deryck and I have similar studios in a sense that they're both very pro level studios yet still in our houses. He's got the ability to record live drums and more guitars than I do and also has a significant collection of amazing outboard gear and guitars. Since I'm super program heavy I have a psychotic amount of plug-ins, virtual instruments, and other software programs. That's kinda the main differences I'd say. I mean, that and of course he's amazingly talented and I'm just a hack!!
- What feedback did Deryck give you about "Just Sign Here" and "Welcome to the BLC"?
I believe he likes Welcome2BLC , not sure he ever heard JSH
- [on the story behind Innocence]
Actually, I originally tried it. She and I wrote it with then intention of me doing it but it just didn't feel as good with me for some reason. Probably because she is the best singer I know. Anyway I recorded it with deryck but we never really finished and Av decided to give it a shot and it turned out to be the best song on her record(in my opinion).
- Hey Ev, on The New MIX 106.3 Saginaw, MI...you said you and Av were setting up a vocal session. Have you two had time to record the session? If so, how'd it go?
ah, it was something she was helping me with. and yes, went great
- will you invite Avril on your tour to sing that one line in the last chorus [of Evan Way] , or maybe a duet of that song
never say never
